Ink on Cheap Paper Test #6, Pilot Purple

Pilot Purple is available as a color in the Varsity series. A review for this ink isn't readily available. The Pilot Namiki Purple isn't an exact match and there is no Pilot Purple bottled ink. These samples were written with a Pilot Varsity with a medium nib.

The summary will now include a best performer out of the One-Sided papers, Two-Sided papers, and Overall Paper. The One-Sided Papers are between the AMPAD Legal Pad, small Legal Pad, and Scratchpad. The Two-Sided Papers are between AMPAD Steno Pad, Staples Copy Paper, and pen & GEAR Notebook. The Post-It-Note will speak for itself as a test for if you want to use this ink to write on that type of paper for quick notes.

 Summary:

One-Sided Best Performer: With zero drying time and the least amount of bleed-through compared to the other one-sided papers, the AMPAD Legal Pad secures the best performer in this category.

Two-Sided Best Performer: The pen & GEAR Notebook boasts a five second dry time and the Overlapping Lines test illustrates that the minimal amount of ghosting the paper shows does not interfere with readability.

Overall Best Performer: Both the AMPAD Steno Pad and the pen & GEAR Notebook did well overall, but the pen & GEAR Notebook edges out for best overall with slightly less ghosting and no apparent bleeding.

Let's Talk about Feathering: The definition of feathering for ink on paper is when the ink starts to spread from where the it was laid down, causing what looks like feathers on the letters. Cheap paper is one of the culprits of feathering and the ink properties can make it more or less pronounced. These tests aren't going to be looking at feathering unless it's egregious. Can you read the words clearly, even with a bit of feathering? Probably. Can you read notes with a lot of bleeding? Hard to say. Ghosting is less of an issue for double-sided writing, but bleeding will hamper readability of both sides. That's why these tests focus on those and drying time rather than feathering. For less feathering, up the quality of your paper or get a dryer ink.
